The project involved replacing two culverts that were coming to the end of their design life. The first culvert was constructed over an existing arco culvert and under high-voltage power lines. The second one was built next to the existing three-barrel culvert.

Construction of both culverts needed to support Watercare’s existing 1800mm diameter Huia #2 watermain in the carriageway.

In addition, retaining structures were added upstream and downstream including rehabilitation of the stream passageway.

Both culverts were required to provide two lanes of traffic at peak flows, a tidal flow that switches from two lanes city bound in the mornings to two lanes westbound in the afternoon.

Prior to construction, we provided expert advice to Auckland Transport during negotiations on constructability and cost.

During delivery, we provided contractual services as the Engineer to the Contract and Engineer Representative. This included project management services while working closely with the client delivery team.
