Picton Street Stormwater Separation and Network Upgrade

This $24 million project is part of the Western Isthmus Water Quality Improvement programme and links with the Central Interceptor Wastewater Tunnel outcome to reduce sewage spills into the Waitematā Harbour.

The project includes installation of approximately 54 catchpits and 1.5km of new stormwater pipe, ranging from 300mm diameter to 1400mm diameter.  Pipe is installed both by trenched and trenchless methodologies.

There are 36 new manholes with the major being the 4.6m diameter, 12m deep drop shaft on Wellington Street to connect the new stormwater system to the existing brick stormwater tunnel.    

Alta’s role is Engineers Representative providing expert advice and acting as independent council for contractual arrangements between the Contractor and the Client.

Successful completion of the role involves close management of key issues, including Health and Safety, Design Interface, Quantity Surveying and Contract Negotiations for large provisional sums. In addition, stakeholder management includes liaison with the Freemans Bay Residents Association and Kainga Ora.
